Networks
Networking and associating with different individuals, organizations and associations helps in mutual achievement of goals. Since her inception, FWLD has being networking with individuals and organizations from a consortium of selected districts for recommendations and successful reformations and has been paving way towards attaining her goals.
Local level networks are formed in different districts from development regions in the country. These networks were established during the grassroot advocacy on inheritance rights of women. The network consists of representatives of grassroots from different districts and FWLD members. Coordinating grassroots advocacy, public education and designing and implementing programmes in the area of women's rights are some of the activities of the network.
FWLD has maintained untiring networks with local organizations on the following issues: Property Rights, Citizenship Rights, Reproductive Health Rights, Paralegal and the Constituent Assembly.
-
Property Rights:
Economic justice is an important goal for women because when they have an economic base they have more autonomy and do not have to endure abusive conditions and have more choices and opportunities. Equality in the right to inheritance in property is one of the tools available to achieve economic equality and justice. Despite the constitutional guarantee of right to equality, many provisions of the existing legal provisions of the Country Code are discriminatory against women. FWLD has been working with ten different districts on property rights issues namely: Kanchanpur, Kailali, Banke, Dang, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Kabhre, Dolakha, Morang and Dhankuta.
-
Reproductive Health:
Nepal is famous worldwide for having the highest maternal mortality rate. Many international human rights instruments and conferences including the women's world conferences have recognized reproductive rights as women's rights. FWLD has been working with eighteen different districts namely, Kanchanpur, Kailali, Dadeldhura, Surkhet, Banke, Baglung, Rupandehi, Tanahu, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Nuwakot, Kathmandu , Kabhre, Mahotari, Sunsari, Morang and Jhapa, for disseminating knowledge about women's rights to reproductive health by performing orientation programs or conducting trainings.
-
Paralegal:
FWLD has provided significant trainings to potential trainers in the legal filed and in order to spread legal awareness, has been working in twenty-three districts viz: Dadeldhura, Achham, Humla, Dang, Kaski, Kapilbastu, Tanahu, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Parsa, Kabhre, Udayapur, Saptari, Sunsari, Panchthar, Mugu, Kalikot, Jumla, Rukum, Jajarkot, Bajang, Bajura and Dolpa.
-
Citizenship:
Citizenship is a basic identity document in Nepal . Discriminatory provisions in the citizenship Act made it extremely formidable for citizens to acquire their citizenship as the provision provided that a father/husband could provide citizenship to their children/wife whereas a mother/wife was not allowed to provide citizenship to their children/husband. Myriad number of people do not have identity document and their legal existence is not recognized and this has multiple negative effects on education, employment, property and even participation. FWLD campaigns for equal citizenship law and has been working with ten districts namely: Dadeldhura, Kailali, Surkhet, Dang, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Kabhre, Saptari, Morang and Chitwan district regarding citizenship law.
