HIV and AIDS

HIV and AIDS are perceived as a disgraceful disease that is buried deep within the victim herself/himself. The victims fail to open up for the fear of elusion within the society that is ever-present in Nepal . Innumerable HIV and AIDS infected people often confront inevitable unfriendly behavior in their day-to-day lives and are victims of harassment and maltreatment. Nearly 80,000 Nepalese are the victims of HIV and AIDS and live a life of stigmatization and trepidation vis-à-vis other people. People fail to understand that the victims of HIV and AIDS need help and consideration.

HIV and AIDS is spreading in Nepal in an alarming rate. Men, women and children have been the victims of HIV and AIDS through unsafe sexual intercourse, through sharing of syringes, from mother to her child and even marital rapes. Moreover, exponential growth on HIV and AIDS is seen in Nepalese women as the state fails to protect them from domestic violence. Many wives in Nepal have encountered sexual violence or marital rapes whose consequences are HIV and AIDS and most fail to express their plight owing to the unequal power, based on gender.

We have intervened in the HIV and AIDS arena by conducting researches and performing advocacy for the legal reformation of violation of rights of the HIV and AIDS infected.
