Public Interest Litigations
To maintain the rule of law FWLD has been providing Public Interest Litigation (PIL) services and these PILs have been one of the greatest strategic interventions of FWLD towards achieving her goals. Some of the major achievements through PILs are:
- Inheritance right of daughter (Meera Dhungana Case 1996)
- Lesser punishment for raping prostitute was held ultra vires (2002)
- Marital rape interpreted as crime (2002)
- Discriminatory law against women related to intestate property declared null and void (2004)
- Directive order to government to form a committee to review and draft Bill for eliminating all discriminatory laws against women (2004)
- Directive order to enact law on sexual harassment (2004)
- Discriminatory penal provision for abortion declared discriminatory (2005)
- Discrimination regulation of recruitment of boys in army and police declared ultra vires (2005)
- Directive order to eliminate Chhaupadi , social ill practice (2005)
- Discriminatory ground for divorce for women declared ultra vires (2006)
