To mark the 95 th International Women's Day "Gender Equality beyond 2005: Building a More Secure Future," the United Nations Coordination Unit (UNCU) and FWLD decided to jointly held a half-day workshop entitled "Workshop on the impact of the Conflict on the Protection of the Women" on March 31, 2005.

The UN Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement were used as basis for conducting the workshop. The workshop was organized to provide an open space for mainly the civil society, NGOs, experts and local authorities to discuss further concerns on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and women's issues.

The objectives of the workshop were:

  • To share information: studies, needs assessments undertaken by different actors as well as programme activities, which include IDP women as beneficiaries in order to understand who is doing what and where.
